Most everyone has done son of Straker stories, that was just my plot bunny idea for a take on one, and my husband wrote that because I hadn't actually written it down. It surprised me he did it without punctuation, he just sat and did it. He said he wanted it stark, without bells and whistles, just dialogue for the most part to set the grim mood after the funeral then you realize it isn't Straker and Freeman. All I suggested was that Alec's foster son might think of Straker as an uncle. My husband chewed on that a while  Grin then he said fine, he felt it worked ok. The beginning is more or less canon, the familiar Straker/Freeman argument, then all hell breaks out when the "Commander" admits feeling personal loss. Alec's foster son asks her about the bar to manipulate her into admitting it. It's suggested she tried to follow Straker's stoic example, but Alec's foster son has other ideas. So while the two kids are meant to remind us of the originals, Alec's foster son can't drink. That was my husband's idea. Not an original idea, but just fun to play around with. I've always appreciated twists.
Of course we are now DEAD meat as far as Nans is involved, we killed original
Alec.  Grin

Wait till you've destroyed the entire planet a few times - killing one or two  characters is nothin'.

Of course then I do I hold something of a record for destroying the planet in less than twenty words.

But next gen stories are fun. Grin

They are!!!  I outlined an entire series of Next Gen stories for my Conover Saga, and boy, they were gonna be fun!  But then I decided that no one but me would be interested in Straker's, Freeman's, and Foster's kids, so I shelved them.  But they were gonna be fun!  Wink

I did eventually write the first one.  Reevaluation.  It can be found at the SHADO Library under the Conover Saga as a Revisited story.  #21.  Did you ever write a Next Gen story for UFO, Deb?

Well, Esther and Alex Straker appear in several of my stories (Okay, she's a main character in All I Have to Give), but in my 'verse, the war against the aliens is pretty much over by the time the kids are grown. At some point I might do an Alt 'verse with them. But then, maybe not. Wink

Next Gen stories are fun! I took a shot at it in Love Never Fails throwing a time travel aspect into the mix. Smiley

Deb,
I guess I'm behind on your stories then.  I haven't read that one.  Thanks!  I'll check it out!  Cool
